Dear Avenue Road Hockey Community,
Normally at this time of year, we would be sending out emails regarding playoffs, and wishing players and their families a happy Passover, Easter or Nouroz, for those who celebrate.
We would still like to wish everyone a good spring, hopefully one filled with health.
Unfortunately, any hope of doing something on ice was dashed by wave two, and now wave three, of the covid pandemic. A number of our feeder schools are currently grappling with cases and even at least one multi-class outbreak. And the City of Toronto began taking out city-run ice several weeks ago.
However, we continue to work on planning for the future. We continue to be in contact with the GTHL as they begin preparing for the competitive hockey season. We hope to be able to open registration to the 2021-22 season soon.
We are looking at holding a virtual banquet, hopefully in April, after the holiday season is over. And our three kinesiology students are with us until the end of April, so look out for at least one or two more of their newsletters. They are also working on an ARHA podcast series. If your players haven’t seen those newsletters yet, you can find them on our website: https://avenueroadhockey.com/news-and-events/ - they are written for the players, so please share the link with them.
The ARHA community has been around a long time, and we will be resilient together. Hockey will be back eventually, and like you, we are hoping for a better season ahead.
Yours,
Avi Hyman, General Manager (Volunteer), House League, Avenue Road Hockey Association, on behalf of Don Mintz, ARHA Director, and the entire ARHA volunteer executive.
